“The world needs more energy” is a statement we’ve heard more than once from Tord Lien, Norway’s Petroleum and Energy Minister. The Minister is not alone in this opinion. It’s echoed around the world, especially when you consider that nearly a quarter of the world’s population lives in both economic and energy poverty.

Welcome to our Offshore Europe 2015 issue. The event’s theme – How to Inspire the Next Generation – is both important and a challenge in light of current economic conditions. Many of the features in this issue deal with mitigating cost issues – as well as how the industry can work to maintain and improve personnel skills. Without a doubt, young people today need to be aware that the industry is here to stay and that jobs will be available for them in the future.

Asset Life Extension – Dan A Reinforcement CampaignAug 24, 2015 When the Dan Bravo Complex came on stream in 1972, the facility – Denmark’s first producing offshore oil field – was expected to produce for 25 years. Now, thanks to a complex, multi-year subsea structural reinforcement campaign involving the installation of 136 tonnes of new steel, over more than 200 diving days, the life of the complex’s wellhead platform, Dan A, is expected to be nearly trebled to total 70 years when the work is finalised.
