Profile: A Man to Turn it AroundApr 24, 2014 To outsiders, there was nothing amiss in the way Songa Offshore had been operating. Its semi-submersible rigs were clearing inspection. They were in demand worldwide. New-build rigs in Asia were on their way. Behind the scenes, “trouble” arose when the cost of building four rigs in Korea didn’t match the math of rig-rate profitability. Rig Special Periodic Surveys (SPS), too, were costing more than three hundred million dollars more than they should have.
