September’s national elections in Norway may turn out to be a turning point in how the “oil adventure” plays itself out over the next few years. One thing is for certain – Norwegians have now grown used to the fact that the Government is well funded, being more than just a tax collector, but, more importantly, the steward of the growing oil fund. The results of the elections, which were relatively close, tell us, more than anything, to what degree Norwegians wish to make us of the oil fund and feel about how the industry must progress to ensure continued national oil profits.

The first of January last year marked the creation of the Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) – the demerger of responsibility for health, safety and the environment (HSE) in Norway’s petroleum sector from the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) to a separate agency.
