Wood Group’s clean energy business, previously known as SgurrEnergy, has been chosen to carry out power performance testing [PPT] on Europe’s largest onshore wind project.
The 1 GW Fosen Vind project, which is located in central Norway on the peninsula of Fosen, the island of Hitra and in Snillfjord, comprises six onshore wind farms and will have the combined capacity to power up to 170,000 Norwegian households when complete.
The project will see Wood Group’s clean energy team undertake the installation of 29 guyed lattice met masts, data monitoring and analysis for the site calibration phase. This will be followed by the installation of power monitoring equipment fitted to a number of the wind turbine generators for the power curve test phase.
Robbie Gibson, director of asset management at Wood Group - clean energy, says, “We are very pleased to be working with Statkraft on this important project, which we believe to be one of the largest of its kind. PPT allows you to compare the actual power curve for a wind turbine to the warranted power curve provided by the wind turbine manufacturer, and to ensure that the manufacturer corrects any sources of underperformance.”

It is expected that the that the wind farms, which will generate 3.4 TWh power annually, will be completed and commissioned by 2020.
