TGS update on the acquisition of PDS

TGS Geological Products and Services, a division of TGS-NOPEC Geophysical Company, has completed the acquisition phase of a project to bring the entirety of Uzbekistan’s well log data into the company’s online search and access tool LOG-LINE Plus!®. The dataset, which includes more than 55,000 logs from over 3,800 wells, is the first commercially-available source for well logs from this emerging hydrocarbon province. With the in-country sourcing of the project complete, TGS’ acquisition experts will quickly relocate to Kyrgyzstan to commence a similar scanning project in mid-September.

Based in Tashkent, a TGS/Uzbekgeofizika team indexed and scanned the country’s hardcopy well log assets, which were subsequently quality-affirmed and loaded into LOG-LINE Plus!® as part of an agreement to make the data available online. The Kyrgyzstan project will be undertaken with a joint TGS and Kyrgyzneftegaz project team, based in Kochkarata, as part of a ten year agreement that was signed in late 2006.

“Creating a digital library of Uzbekistan’s well log data assets is an important project, both from an exploration and preservation standpoint” said Dr. Tashpulat Lepesovich Babajanov, Uzbekgeofizika’s Chairman. “In this form, the data is secured against decay by environmental factors or the passing of time and it will support the advancement of exploration activities in Uzbekistan.”

“Kyrgyzstan well data will be of higher value to the industry as a result of our joint digital conversion project” said Mr. Kabyljan Abytovich Turgunbayev, Chairman, Kyrgyzneftegaz. “We chose to enter into this agreement due to the quality of TGS’ work, their experience with well logs and the simplicity of the internet-based distribution system.”

“LOG-LINE Plus!® is a global online repository representing high-quality well log assets from many of the world’s key hydrocarbon provinces. These two datasets are instrumental as we expand our footprint in Central Asia,” said Rod Starr, Executive Vice President, Global Business Development for TGS Geological Products and Services. “Local insight helps us source the most complete dataset available, which, when combined with our well log data processing expertise, makes the collection second to none, and certainly the easiest for end-users to browse and acquire.”
