UK-based turbine maintenance & repair business Wood Group Trubine Services and Yokogawa Corp. of America have agreed to swap kit to offer integrative kit for rotating equipment customers, not two weeks after rivals Emerson and Cisco formed a similar pact.

Yokogawa will use TCS kit to provide turbine controls and associated services and Wood Group will use Yokogawa controls and instrumentation to supplement its offering.

“This agreement greatly increases both companies’ ability to meet their customer’s needs in the power generation, hydrocarbon processing and industrial energy markets where control retrofits include instrumentation, control and safety of rotating machinery,” a statement said.

Yokogawa said it was heeding requests from customers, while Wood Group managers cited access to newly introduced, state-of-the-art Yokogawa hardware, without being specific.

The Wood-Yokohama news follows a similar pact announced just days ago between Emerson Process Management and Cisco Systems, whereby Emerson diagnostic transmitters would couple with Cisco network security to offer constant and remote data for preventative maintenance.

Emerson appeared to take the lead in late November with its European Launch of Smart Machinery Health Management for Turbomachinery, a tool for operations and maintenance crew which allows processes to be slowed or stopped for corrective measures without shutting down area plant.

The core of Emerson’s offering is its CSI 6000 Machinery Health Monitor which transforms vibration monitoring into predictive alerts for pricy rotating equipment.
