French oil company Total and partners have made a new deepwater discovery in Angola, where the Alho-1 well in prolific Block 32 uncovered oil-bearing reservoirs.
It’s the 14th well in the block, and, like others in the area, it tested well at 5,400 barrels per day.
The well went down in 1,600 metres of water some nine kilometres northwest of the Cominhos-1 discovery of earlier in 2007.
Total (30 percent, operator) and lease-holder Sonangol (20 percent) share the block with Marathon Oil Co. (30 percent), Esso (15 percent) and Galp (5 percent).
Exploration from 2003 to 2007 confirmed the potential of Block 32, site of the Gindungo Canela, Cola, Gengibre, Mostarda, Salsa, Caril, Manjericão, Louro, Cominhos and Colorau discoveries.
A concept study is underway for a Phase 1 of development in Block 32 East.
