Erik-Jan Bijvank, SVP – UK & Africa, said; “REACHing Out delivered on our key aims for the event – to engage with our peers, generate meaningful discussion and develop new relationships to improve safety. We had an excellent line-up of keynote speakers and the event was a great success.
Keynote presentations from the Step Change in Safety, TAQA and On-Purpose discussed workforce engagement and breaking down ‘tribalism’ on installations, whereby an Operator and contractor organisations operate to different safety programmes on the same worksite. Sharing safety data, knowledge and experience was identified as a key action to achieving this and working safer together.
The topic of safety reps also generated significant discussion, with a general consensus that the role was important to driving safety improvements and this could be recognised with additional training, development and responsibilities for the nominated individuals.
