Oslo-based drillling contractor Songa Offshore has secured the $150-million hire of the semi-submersible drill rig Songa Venus with Australian Drilling Associates.

The rig will ply the North Western Shelf, Timor Sea and Bass Strait under ADA’s management. The contract is due to start in fourth-quarter 2008 after Songa Venus’s current job with ENI Australia and Inpex Browse.

“ADA will be the main contract holder and manage the drilling operations on behalf of the independent oil companies,” a Songa statement said.

The rig will earn its sum over 376 days before a new 376-day term starts at an agreed market rate.
