Sakhalin Energy has confirmed a small oil spill in the area of its Vityaz offshore complex, where severe weather damaged single-anchor leg mooring buoy, or SALM.
The Okha floating storage and off-take vessel was disengaged, though not before “a small oil release into the sea”.
The Company said oil-spill response and other vessels are at the scene to avoid the chance of further release of oil.
Extensive environmental impact assessments and great equipment expense has gone into protecting the areas ecology, which includes a feeding and spawning area for grey whales.
