Rowan extends North Sea contract for Gorilla VII-Spotlight

U.S.-based drilling contractor Rowan Companies Inc. has reported its jack-up rig Bob Keller has won a three-year, $201-million contract in Saudi Arabia.

The Tarzan-class rig is en route to the Middle East after finishing up in the Gulf of Mexico. Drilling off Saudi Arabia starts in the spring of 2008.

The new contract includes a one-year option to renew.

Rowan managers said they now have nine rigs in the Middle East, a region they expected would “require more” in future.
