Ireland-based Providence Resources has reported the AJE field appraisal well offshore Nigeria has confirmed and exceeded expectations and will be plugged for future production.

Well No. 4 logged 690 feet of pay in five oil and gas zones through the Albian rock the drill bit had eaten through. The Transocean Pathfinder drillship, drilling from atop 1,000-feet of water, probed the main reservoir and found a 335 ft oil column and condensate cap over a 30 ft oil rim.

The AJE-1 well test flowed 42 million standard cubic feet per day and 2,262 barrels of oil per day, and now the No. 4 well is believed to have made contact with the same reservoir.

Providence is joined at AJE by operator Yinka Folawiyo Petroleum Co., Chevron, Vitol Exploration and Energy Equity Resources at AJE, just 30 kilometres offshore Nigeria.
