PetroChina plots pipeline, counts cut carbon

PetroChina used the occasion of heralding record, first-half results to announce agreement on a route for Part II of its West-East Pipeline Project, with Horgas in Xinjiang as its start and Guangzhou and coastal Shanghai its two ends.

The 4,895-metre trunk line will snake through 13 province amd terrotories under Central Government control.

The pipeline will be gauged to take 30 billion cubic meters per year beginning in 2010. The building phase will gather pace in 2008.

PetroChina said the gas will increase Chinese consumption by up to two percent. Meanwhile, 76.8 million tonnes of coal turning out 1.66 million t of sulfur dioxide and 150 million t of carbon-dioxide will be cut.
