A consortium of Petrobras, Shell and Galp Energia has proved the presence of oil in pre-salt reservoirs in ultra-deep waters in the Santos Basin, where drilling in mid-May stopped at 6,773 meters total depth.

Well 1-SPS-52A showed oil on par with other Santos Basin finds. Oil sampling and formation testing proved the discovery, operator Petrobras’s Web site said this week.

The wildcat went down to 2,139 m vertical depth some 250 kilomtres offshore coastal state Sao Paulo.

The consortium is preparing a Discovery Assessment Plan for the National Petroleum Agency.
