In a sign of the times, famed oilfield engineering outfit Wood Group said it and its subsidiary JP Kenny were appointing heads of new offshore renewables businesses.
The parent company’s gas-turbine services division has a new Wood Group Renewable Energy Services to focus on the wind turbine market and offer operations, maintenance, asset management, parts sourcing and other related services.
In-line with the U.K. government’s strategic focus on wind, a Wood Group statement said the renewable sector is “essential” and therefor “flexible pricing” for cash-strapped customers would be offered.
Meanwhile, J P Kenny has a new operations director for its newly formed offshore renewables division already focused on the coast of South West England, where offshore wind and wave energy projects are underway.
“Many billions (of pounds) will be invested in wind, wave and tidal energy projects over the next 10 years,” said JP Kenny chief exec Steve Wayman, adding that the company’s offshore experience of 30 years would henceforth be applied to serve renewables.
Last year, J P Kenny was made manager of the Wave Hub renewable energy project by the U.K. South West Regional Development Agency. It’s to be the world’s largest wave energy park at 20 Megawatts.
