Odim

Norwegian offshore handling specialist ODIM has won a NOK50 million ($9 million) order to kit out two anchor handling tug supply vessels with automated anchor control systems.

Aker Yards, Aukra is building the boats for DOF shipping company for delivery from early 2009 to late 2010.

Special frames are said to make anhcor-handling with the systems safer: “The ODIM AHF reduces maximum loads by more than 50 percent when rig anchors are being pulled over the stern roller,” a statement asserted.

Anchor-handling and safety were brought to the fore in Norway after the Bourbon Dolphin sunk off the the Shetland Islands in April 2007. It was handling a rig anchor when a connecting chain slid to starboard and turned the ship over.
