Lundin Petroleum has tapped a new oil reservoir at Torphins in the central North Sea sector by the Norway-UK meridian line, it was learned Monday.
Well 21/8-4z in Block 21/8 went in on 9 July 2008 and was “directionally drilled” to test the Torphins West. It penetrated a Paleocene-era sandstone reservoir 30 metres higher than the first well, where “an oil and thin overlying gas column” nine metres thick was logged.
The Transocean GSF Arctic II semi-submersible plugged and abandoned the well “to determine future activity” in the license, a statement by partner Revus said.
Operator Lundin (40 percent) is joined at Torphins by Revus (50 percent) and Challenger Minerals Ltd. (10 percent).
