Sub-sea engineering outfit J P Kenny has won a “strategic” pipeline contract from the Shtokman Development Company developing the gigantic Arctic Russian gas field also called Shtokman.
The Gazprom, Total and StatoilHydro consortium’s announcement heralds the first mulit-billion-dollar contract win in the $16-billion project in the eastern Barents Sea.
The contract comprises front-end engineering, design and management, or FEED work for the lengthy Shtokman trunkline project to bring gas from the Shtokman field to Northern Russia.
The project envisions a 600-kilometre, 44-inch sub-sea pipeline from the Shtokman field running south to Murmansk.
An unnamed Russian contractor will support the design work in the John Wood Group business’s London and Norwegian offices. Meanwhile, a St. Petersburg JPK office of Russian engineers is also said to opening soon.
The Shtokman sub-sea connections are said to be “beyond the reach of divers” and therefore to require new pipeline installation solutions.
