Irish independent Island Oil & Gas has contracted sub-sea specialist Pegasus International UK Ltd. for the front-end engineering work ahead of a joint development of the Old Head of Kinsale and Schull Gas Fields in the Celtic Sea.
Field development options favour sub-sea tiebacks, and planning has already started for some sort of start-up by 2009.
Phase 2 of planning this October begins “an active dialogue with suppliers and offshore service contractors in order to establish field development plans”. A Declaration of Commerciality will follow, followed in turn by a Plan of Development being sent to the Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources.
Drilling this summer pointed to up to 120 billion feet of recoverable gas in the two fields.
