Kazakh authorities have stopped drilling at the giant Kashagan oilfield for three months due to environmental concerns on the heals of cost and time overruns.
"The permit for 2007 has been suspended,” news agency Reuters reported Kazakhstan Ecology Minister Nurlan Iskakov as saying, adding, "In 2003-2005 we specified a number of offshore sites and we put forward our demands … As of today, these ecological requirements have not been fulfilled."
Kashagan, the world’s biggest oilfield, is being developed by a consortia lead by ENI of Italy.
