DNO secures drilling rig for NCS-Spotlight

Norway-based oil company DNO International has taken a second look at an old, 1977 North Sea well and declared it a discovery good for up to 36 million barrels of oil equivalent.

The block 211/22b well, now called the Mulle prospect, is “downdip” of Antrim’s Causeway field, which is understood to offer hope of future tie-back infrastructure. DNO managers are also considering a sub-sea tie-in to “existing” infrastructure after they’ve developed the discovery with a possible appraisal well.

The well was drilled, logged and cored by Sun Oil, but no drill stem test was undertaken at the time. A new look at old log and core data and a correlation with neighbouring wells showed a discovery well in the making.

Operator DNO, with 50 percent, is joined at Block 211/22b by Elixir Petroleum (40 percent) and Rocksource UK Ltd (10 percent).
