Decom North Sea, the offshore oil & gas decommissioning forum formed a year ago to stimulate the supply chain to secure the sizable opportunities on offer from the decommissioning programme due to ramp up over the next 12 months, is staging its first international mission for members.
The body has 110 members, including operators, major contractors, service specialists and technology developers. Representatives from several member companies are taking part in the mission to Norway on February 14 to 18.
Decom North Sea Chief Executive Brian Nixon said: “We recognise there are huge opportunities for our members in decommissioning projects not only in the UKCS but right across the North Sea, in the Norwegian Continental Shelf, the Dutch Continental Shelf and the Danish Continental Shelf. As a result, Decom North Sea is working with European partners to try to quantify what the total expected cost and programme of decommissioning will be across the North Sea and therefore the potential opportunity for DNS members.
“We are already promoting our member capabilities to the key players in each of these areas and believe the trade mission to Norway will be of significant benefit to the participants.’’
The aim of the mission is to find out more about upcoming decommissioning projects in the Norwegian Continental Shelf as well as to promote Decom North Sea members’ capabilities to the operators and major contractors operating in Norway.
The visit to Norway coincides with a major decommissioning conference in Bergen, from February 14 to 16, organised by the Norwegian Petroleum Society (NPF).
As well as attendance at the conference, the mission will include a visit to offshore decommissioning specialists Scanmet and a tour of its decommissioning site at Stord and a visit to AF Decom’s decommissioning facilities at Vats. The mission will conclude in Stavanger with a networking event with presentations from some of the key operators in the Norwegian Continental Shelf followed by 1-2-1 sessions. Companies participating on the mission include: Peterson SBS, Cape Industrial Services, Wood Group Engineering, Interact Activity Management and BMT Cordah.
Decom North Sea has organised a programme of events, seminars and share fairs in collaboration with other energy development organisations and government agencies, with activity covering the north-east, Highlands and Central Belt in Scotland and the north-east and south-east in England where most of the potential supply chain for the decommissioning market is based.
