ConocoPhillips has found gas where it was expected some 20 kilometre north of the central North Sea’s Murdoch platform after drilling into the earth’s crust some 4.2 km.

The Harrison exploration well 44/19b-6 struck a 16-metre gas column and is set for flow testing. Partner Tullow Oil said the drilling had been underbudget and ahead of schedule.

Tullow hailed the find for “de-risking” adjacent blocks.
