Norwegian pipelay outfit Cecon has confirmed it has won a 200 million ($31 million) contract extension off Angola, where offshore construction work continues apace.
The work picks up in third-quarter 2009 after a current contract that saw Cecon complete a 30 kilometre pipelay on schedule using the Maersk Responder pipelay vessel. But chief exec Terje Tellefsen said his outfit has performed a number of other pipelays and contruction work in Angola, with more to come
He said he hasn't decided which vessel to use for the new work among a number of available types.
Cecon, meanwhile, has finalized engineering designs for a special Pipe Lay Ramp to convey flexible or rigid pipe. The system’s key advantage lies in offering “J-lay and reel-lay” options for laying rigid pipe, a key cost consideration for oil companies and supplier contractors.
It's unclear whether a construction vessel being built in Canada and to fitted with the new ramp will be available in time for the Angolan order.
