The deepwater off Angola has surrendered the Dione discovery for the country’s national champion Sonangol and partner BP which operates Block 31.
The sixteenth discovery in the block lies nine kilometres soutwest of the Juno 1 discovery, where water is 1,696 metres deep.
A test revealed the reservoir was ready to flow over 5,000 barrels a day if produced.
As concession holder, Sonangol owns 20 percent in Block 31. Operator BP reatins a 27 percent stake and is joined in the block by equity partners Esso (25 percent), StatoilHydro (13 percent), Marathon Petroleum (10 percent) and Total business TEPA (5 percent).
BP also has operated interests (BP 50 per cent equity) in Block 18 where Greater Plutonio started production on 1st October 2007.
BP has non-operated interests in Block 15, operated by Esso Exploration Angola (Block 15) Limited (BP 26.67 per cent equity) and in Block 17 operated by Total (BP 16.67 per cent equity).
