BP has "recently" awarded oilfield outfit Seawell Norge a five-year contract with options to perform all the drilling at BP's platforms in Norway, the UK oil company announced Friday.
A contract sum, combined 2.5 billion kroner ($500 million), covers platform drilling and maintenance services over five years plus 125 million kroner ($25 million) to the upgrade the Ula platform driller, where the drill bit will turn in 2009.
“The outcome will help us to secure an extended and profitable field life to 2028 and beyond, “ BP Norge managing director Trevor Garlick said in a statement.
BP operates four producing fields offshore Norway — Ula, Tambar, Valhall and Hod — and holds 13 licenses, 10 as operator. The Norway spend in two major projects, Skarv FPSO and Valhall, has reached 45 billion kroner ($9 billion).
The supermajor said its staff of 670 in Norway is set to swell by 140 for Skarv operations.
