Aker Yards becomes STX Europe

Aker Yards to build Aker Oilfield $650M in ships

The renowned builder of offshore vessels Aker Yards has changed its name to STX Europe to better reflect its new Korean owners.

STX Business Group became 92-percent equity owner this August, and now all Aker Yards offices and business will bear the brand.

STX has a key cruise ship and offshore builder in the Aker assets. In 2008, a new STX Europe will deliver 28 cutting-edge offshore and other specialized vessels. STX Business Group earned revenues of $9.05 billion in 2007.
