Aker Solutions has signed contracts with Murphy Exploration & Production Co. for an order of sub-sea production equipment worth $23 million, a sum that includes well sets and umbilical.
The sub-sea trees, control systems and steel tubing umbilical will head to the Gulf of Mexico and Murphy’s seabed build-up there in the first half of 2009. The company’s have already partnered on the Kikeh field offshore Malaysia.
Engineering design and project management for the GoM project will be provided from Aker Solutions` office in Houston, Texas. The company’s Malaysian workshops will assemble “most components”.
Murphy Exploration & Production Co. is a subsidiary of the integrated oil and gas giant Murphy Oil Corp.
Murphy and partners, meanwhile, are underway with the Thunder Hawk field development in in Mississippi Canyon. The project includes a stand-alone semi-submersible floating production unit with an estimated capacity of 45,000 barrels a day. First oil is seen in 2009.
