Aker Yards to build Aker Oilfield $650M in ships

Aker Kvaerner Subsea will develop new sub-sea tools release specialist technicians for compatriot entity Aker Oilfield Services’ specialized deepwater sub-sea equipment support vessel, it was understood Wednesday.

A statement described a deal worth $60 million to get Aker Kvaerner to produce special sub-sea installation equipment for Aker Oilfield’s contract with Brazilian oil company Petrobras for the special deepwater ship.

Aker Kvaerner Subsea president Raymond Carlsen said in a statement that quicker sub-sea installations will result for close cooperation. An Aker Kvaerner document said it would save up to 80 percent of the time needed for well interventions by rig.

Expro Group in Aberdeen and FMC Kongsberg Subsea in Norway are other suppliers with an edge in the deepwater intervention field.
