Seadrill has taken delivery of the new deepwater drillship West Gemini from the Samsung Shipyard in South Korea. The unit was delivered on budget and one day ahead of original delivery schedule. The vessel will carry out a simulated drilling operation in Korean waters before relocation to Angola in West Africa to commence operations under a two-year contract with Total.
Alf C Thorkildsen, Chief Executive Officer in Seadrill Management AS, says, "We are pleased to report the third consecutive on-time, on-budget delivery of a deepwater drillship to Seadrill from the Samsung Shipyard and look forward to commence what will be our first deepwater drilling operation offshore Angola for Total. The completion of our 10th newbuilding project within two years confirms Seadrill's ability to manage complex projects within time and cost and is a great achievement for our organization and the people involved."
