Salamander's Lumba Lumba-1 well to be plugged and abandoned

Salamander Energy plc, an independent upstream oil and gas exploration and production company focused on Asia, says that preparations are underway to P&A the Lumba Lumba-1 exploration well in permit SC41, Sandakan Basin, offshore northeast Borneo, Philippines.

The well has been drilled to total depth of 2,153 metres sub-sea and wireline logs have been run over the primary objective horizons. Following logging and casing of the shallow section, the well has suffered from prolonged operational difficulties and the decision has been taken to call TD early before penetrating the deeper secondary objectives.

Elevated background gas readings were seen in the shallow section, however no reservoir quality sandstones of any significant thickness were encountered.

Information from the Lumba Lumba-1 well will now be analysed and integrated with existing data as the partners continue to mature a number of additional, independent, high impact prospects ahead of future drilling.
