ROMAR International

Aberdeenshire-based oilfield service company ROMAR International recently achieved a significant milestone in the company’s history with the 50th sale of its Packer Management System (PMS).

This latest sale was to multi-national rig operator, Transocean and represents revenue in excess of £2million for the technology within two years of ROMAR introducing it to the market.

PMS was designed and built by ROMAR in response to a specific gap in the mobile rig market for an early-warning mud spill preventer system. Due to continuous market research it has been further developed into an automated diagnostic and intervention unit, which provides an early warning to rig staff of a potential mud spillage into the environment. The system also captures a full data history, similar in concept to an aircraft black box.

George Yule, recently appointed ROMAR executive chairman, said: “The success of the ROMAR PMS technology has been a key feature of ROMAR’s business growth and we continue to see a high demand for the system – particularly on the back of recent high profile spillage incidents in other areas as many companies review their spill prevention systems.

“Transocean has been a very good supporter of the ROMAR technology and we are absolutely delighted that they are the recipients of our 50th PMS unit. Having developed, launched and successfully modified the PMS technology, our focus is now on marketing this product across many other parts of the World across the existing mobile rig fleet and of course for new build drilling rigs.”

Initial interest within the mobile rig industry started in the UKCS North Sea with Transocean leading the way by installing ROMAR PMS units on their entire North Sea rig fleet. This was followed by ongoing demand from many other mobile rig owners in various locations worldwide including Gulf of Mexico, Norway, Brazil, West Africa, Singapore - and more recently in the FSU, Russia and Australia.

ROMAR also continues to experience significant business growth across its range of magnetic separation products, which are designed to remove metal contaminants from all forms of drilling fluids.
