Deputy Head of South Pars Special Energy Zone (SPSEZ) Organization Gholam Reza Gharibi said that the giant field is supplying nearly half of Iran's needed gas for domestic consumption.

"The South Pars is one of the largest gas fields in the world and 47% of the gas supplies needed in Iran is produced in this field," Gharibi said at meeting in Iran's Southern port city of Assalouyeh.

He said that the Iranian oil ministry has made heavy investments for the development of the fields.

Late in September, Managing-Director of Pars Oil and Gas Company (POGC) Mousa Souri said that gas production will start in South Pars gas field phases 17 and 18 this winter, adding that the gas will then be injected to the national gas grid after treatment at gas processing plants of phases 15 and 16 in Assalouyeh, the onshore installations of the South Pars gas field.
