Lundin Petroleum through its wholly owned subsidiary Lundin Norway AS (Lundin Norway) says that drilling of appraisal well 16/2-16 in PL501 on the Johan Sverdrup discovery located in the North Sea sector of the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS), has commenced.
The well is located on the north eastern flank of the discovery with the objective to establish the depth, quality and thickness of the Jurassic reservoir sequences approximately 3 km away from the recent well 16/2-13A located in PL501 and well 16/2-10 located in PL265. These wells both found excellent reservoir and deeper oil water contacts than seen elsewhere in the Johan Sverdrup discovery.
Well 16/2-16 will investigate reservoir quality and the oil water contact between the 16/2-13A and 16/2-10 wells. The well is located on the flank of the Johan Sverdrup discovery and as such a limited oil column is expected at this location. The well will however provide valuable information on depth conversion at this location as well as a better understanding of aquifer support.
