LOC, a global marine and engineering consultancy for the shipping and offshore energy industry, has opened its Malaysia office in Kuala Lumpur – its 12th office in the Asia Pacific region; and its 35th globally.
The new office opened its doors, in the shadow of the Petronas Towers, and like its global sister offices, will offer LOC’s traditional range of high level marine and engineering consultancy services to the energy, shipping, defence and onshore infrastructure industries.
The office will be headed by Faisharul Arman Abdul Latiff who has been appointed as Managing Director.
Faisharul joins LOC from Rosen where he previously held the roles of Regional General Manager and Business Development Manager in their Integrity Solutions division. Prior to Rosen, Faisharul was Regional Manager for GE Oil and Gas (Turbomachinery Solutions) for 3 years, and with Petronas for 12 years in a range of marketing, strategic planning, technology services & engineering roles.
Latiff says, “We are already actively engaging with the local markets and the response so far is very good. Our clients are pleased to see the presence of an industry name such as LOC in Kuala Lumpur.”
“As we undertake our approved supplier qualification processes with our local clients, we are very much open for business and able to service any marine and engineering related matters our local clients may have – utilising both our local and regional team of marine and engineering experts,” adds Latiff.
Arifin Marzuki, who joins as Director, started his career in research and development (R&D) with the Henkel corporation in the US. He then spent 7 years with Petronas in their research and scientific services division. After Petronas, in 2005, Arifin joined Scientige, an independent Malaysian-based company providing technology solutions and specialised engineering services to oil and gas companies.
This company was acquired by Bureau Veritas (BV) in 2011 at which time Arifin was appointed as the Director of BV’s Technical Centre for South East Asia.
Alex Harrison, LOC’s Regional Director for Asia Pacific, says, “The new KL office marks another important step in our continued strategic growth in the Asia Pacific to support our regional industry clients.”
Harrison adds, “Although we will service all our traditional markets from KL, we expect our primary focus for this office to be the energy service sector as we see KL being the regional oil and gas service hub of the future.”
