Digital navigation and operations expert Jeppesen has entered into a partnership with maritime satellite communications leader Navarino to create a unique platform for chart data delivery via satellite.
Announcing the news, the two partners underline that this is but the first step in a long-term collaboration focused on strengthening their digital navigation and operations and maritime satellite communications offerings.
“Our partnership with Navarino will help ship operators comply with the ECDIS mandate, which requires some 35,000 vessels to be equipped with up-to-date ENCs by 2018, and support them in achieving the operating efficiency needed to create competitive edge,” explains John Klippen, Managing Director of Jeppesen Norway/Commercial Marine.
“Our market-leading Infinity platform accelerates chart delivery and updating, effectively displacing cumbersome processes involving USB sticks and DVDs. The partnership with Jeppesen is another step in our strategy of providing high-quality integrated satellite communications solutions via the new generation of Inmarsat satellites,” says Navarino Project Manager Nikolaos Papanikolaou.
The rapid introduction of high throughput satellite technology, Big Data services, Maritime Cloud solutions and the Internet of Things at Sea has created new opportunities for shipowners and operators to do digital business. The partnership between Jeppesen and Navarino will support this by leveraging ship-to-shore connectivity to offer navigational and operational services for improving navigation, efficiency and safety at sea.
