Incremental Petroleum provides an update on its horizontal drilling campaign in its wholly owned Selmo oilfield in Southeast Turkey.
Testing is now complete in Selmo well 22. Two oil bearing zones have previously been identified and reported, but results from recent testing indicate a third zone, from 5703 to 5900 feet, has also produced oil on swab at a rate of approximately 70 barrels of oil per day (bopd).
The delay in finalizing the testing has been caused by the scarcity of the small diameter inflatable packers used in this process. Caution is advised on extrapolation swab production data to long term production rates.
The well will now be completed over all three zones that have tested oil, with the water bearing zone between being isolated by a ‘scab liner’.
Equipment should be on hand to complete the well in March 2008.
Gerry McGann, Incremental’s Managing Director said, " The success of the testing programme in Selmo 22 shows that a methodical approach can turn a well that produced mainly water after the drilling of the horizontal can be transformed into a profitable producer.
"This testing approach has applicability to many other wells in Selmo, both horizontal and vertical."
