Safety systems specialist Hima-Sella is increasingly taking on additional functional safety lifecycle responsibilities; and is offering qualified and coordinated services tailored to meet the requirements of all phases of the lifecycle.

For example, in a recently awarded contract the company is to supply two dual redundant SIL3 High Integrity Pressure Protection Solutions (HIPPS), built around the company’s Planar4 solid state logic solver, as well as independent SIL3 assessment services. In another instance, and working with an external consultant, Hima-Sella is to conduct a review of a SIL3 system installed on an offshore platform; with a view to confirming that the system meets the requirements of BS EN 61508 in terms of hardware, software, documentation, competency of personnel and FSM procedures.

Eddy Turnock, Hima-Sella’s Sales & Marketing Director, comments: “Functional safety applies to the entire lifecycle of a plant, or any part thereof, from the initial concept of what the plant will do through to the decommissioning of systems and equipment. Historically, process plant owners have taken care of managing the functional safety lifecycle themselves, but this is becoming more and more challenging. As we approach our 40th anniversary we have decided to expand our traditional system design and engineering services to include consultancy, planning, assessment and specification services, system commissioning, operation and maintenance services, and system modification and decommissioning. We also offer training and on-site support.”
