GE Oil & Gas subsidiary, PT. VetcoGray Indonesia, has been awarded a field decommissioning contract with Premier Oil Indonesia (Premier Oil Natuna Sea B.V.), to support the shut-down of four subsea wells in the Anoa Field, offshore Indonesia. The trees were among the first to be installed by GE in the Asia Pacific region in the 1990s, testament to the company’s global footprint and legacy in the subsea sector.

The deal will see GE Oil & Gas prepare the field’s subsea production trees for removal, supporting the removal of flowlines and production umbilicals, installation of intervention hot stab assemblies and provision of annulus and flowline flanges. Once the wells have been made ready for decommissioning, the tree caps, subsea trees (XTs) and tubing hangers will be removed, cement plugs set and the seabed cleared to comply with local regulations.

Ian Coull, ‎ Regional Executive Leader for Subsea Systems & Drilling at GE Oil & Gas, says, “Our installed base in the Asia Pacific region dates back more than two decades and, through choosing GE to support this project, Premier has made a clear statement of the importance they place on the ability of their supply chain to provide a full lifecycle service. Our expertise will be key in facilitating the safe removal of hardware from the seabed, with minimal contamination or disturbance to the environment. Our end-to-end capability, from commissioning to plug & abandonment, helps address a growing industry need in well management as assets come to the end of their service lifespan and need to be safely removed.”

Prior to commencing the first phase of work, GE Oil & Gas will conduct interface testing with customer-supplied tooling and newly-manufactured tools, ensuring the trees are ROV-enabled for the wider decommissioning campaign, anticipated to begin in Q2, 2017.
