Foster Wheeler says that its subsidiary Foster Wheeler International Corporation (Thailand branch), part of its Global Engineering and Construction Group, has been awarded contracts by MTP HPPO Manufacturing Company Limited, a subsidiary of Siam Styrene Monomer Company Limited, a joint venture between The Dow Chemical Company (Dow) and Siam Cement Group (SCG), relating to a new chemicals facility at Banchang, near Map Ta Phut in Thailand.
Foster Wheeler will perform the engineering, procurement, and construction management (EPCM) for a new 390,000 tons per annum propylene oxide (PO) facility and for the Power, Utilities and Infrastructure (PUI) Project, which will serve the new chemicals facilities. Foster Wheeler's Thailand operation has already completed the front-end design for the PUI Project. Further, Foster Wheeler has been awarded a contract for overall services support.
The Foster Wheeler contract value for the contracts, which was included in the company's third-quarter 2008 bookings, was not disclosed.
"We are delighted to be playing a major role in our clients' strategic investment in these new facilities in Thailand," said Franco Anselmi, chief executive officer of Foster Wheeler Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd. "We believe that these awards reflect the value our clients place on our ability to execute these projects locally from our long-established Thailand operation at Sriracha, our chemicals expertise, and our proven track record as an EPC contractor in the region."
"The PO and PUI Projects are very critical elements of the Thai Growth Project. We have full confidence in Foster Wheeler and expect it will provide a robust execution of both contracts with zero safety incidents, within schedule and budget," said Ron Huijsmans, project director of the Thai Growth Project, SCG-Dow Group.
