DONG Energy has bought the Polish onshore wind farm project Karcino from the Eurotrust A/S-owned company Aktiv Wind ApS. The project is to have a capacity of up to 51 MW.
The wind farm is expected to commence operations in 2010, and the overall construction budget totals around DKK 600 million including DONG Energy's cash purchase price for the shares, provisionally calculated to be DKK 38 million.
”The purchase of the Karcino project consolidates DONG Energy's position in Poland, where there are good opportunities for wind power production and appealing payment conditions. We are therefore pleased to be able to initiate the construction of our third wind farm in the country. The project is a step in our strategy to develop the renewable energy sources,” says Anders Eldrup, CEO of DONG Energy.
The required official authorisation and building permits have already been issued for the wind farm, which is situated in the north-western corner of Poland near the Baltic Sea. In Poland, DONG Energy already operates the Lake Ostrowo wind farm, and is currently building the Karnice I wind farm. Both wind farms have a capacity of around 30 MW, and both are situated in the same region as Karcino.
