Sparrows Group has secured a new 5-year contract with Premier Oil for the provision of crane operations and maintenance across two of its North Sea assets.

The scope of work, awarded to Sparrows for the first time, will see the company provide offshore crane operations and maintenance, including major component change out and overhaul, to the Balmoral floating production vessel (FPV) and the Solan installation.

The contract encompasses all cranes and associated mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and instrumentation on the fields. Sparrows will also be responsible for all inspection, condition monitoring, management of maintenance strategies and full engineering scopes.

Sparrows chief executive officer, Stewart Mitchell, comments, “This award is testament to our reputation of delivering quality, cost-effective operations and maintenance for our clients. We have a long history in the North Sea and we look forward to implementing the Sparrows high quality and safety standards we are recognised for across Premier Oil’s assets.”

Onshore support and repairs will be conducted from Sparrows global headquarters in Aberdeen.

The Solan field, located 96 kilometres north-west of the Orkney Islands, achieved first oil in April 2016 and can store up to 300,000 bbls of crude oil.

The Balmoral FPV is positioned 200 km north-east of Aberdeen at a water depth of 143 metres.

The contract comes just weeks after Sparrows announced that it had been awarded a three-year year crane management services contract with Chyrsaor for the three operating assets it took ownership of from Shell in November.
