Global engineering and industrial services business Bilfinger has created a new GBP 140 million turnover business after merging two of its core UK businesses.
The company has announced the merger of Runcorn-based Bilfinger Industrial Services and Newton-le-Willows-based Bilfinger Industrial Automation Services. Together they will trade under the new Bilfinger UK Limited brand.
The business employs over 2,000 people across a network of eight UK regional offices and will be led by managing directors Dave Pickles and Phill Maurer.
The merger is part of a strategy driven by Bilfinger SE Group, the firm’s global parent company, to strengthen the company structure in North West Europe and integrate its operations to ensure that clients have access to a broad range of expertise and capabilities. The merger will also support Bilfinger UK’s diversification and growth strategy as it targets new markets for its services.
The combined businesses recorded £140 million in revenues for the financial year ending December 2016.
Duncan Hall, executive president of Bilfinger North West Europe, says, “The challenges facing British industry are becoming increasingly complex and management teams are looking for unified, multidisciplinary support through the life-span of their assets, from design and build to operations and maintenance.”
“The merger follows a decade of acquisitions and building Bilfinger’s operations in the UK. The creation of Bilfinger UK consolidates that offering and creates a unified proposition to respond to market demand. It will enable us to not only strengthen our existing presence in our traditional markets of oil and gas and utilities, but also better target growth across the power, chemical and energy sectors,” Hall adds.
Bilfinger Industrial Services was one of the UK’s leading providers of integrated technical services for the process industry, delivering design, construction and maintenance services. Bilfinger Industrial Automation Services focused on increasing the efficiency of assets through automated systems and control solutions.
Bilfinger Salamis UK, which provides specialist offshore services to the oil and gas and wind energy industry, is not part of the merger.
