ABB has been selected by the CSTS Joint Operation to supply prefabricated electric substations for the Tangguh liquefied natural gas (LNG) expansion project.
The CSTS Joint Operation is led by Indonesian EPC contractor, Tripatra, along with Chiyoda, Saipem and Suluh Ardhi Engineering. CSTS is the onshore EPC contractor for the Tangguh expansion project, which includes an addition of a third LNG process train and 3.8 million tons per annum (mtpa) of production capacity to the existing facility, bringing the total plant capacity to 11.4 mtpa.
ABB is designing, engineering and manufacturing prefabricated electrical substations that house low (LV) and medium voltage (MV) switchgear, IS limiters, LV variable speed drives, bus ducts and a direct current (DC) uninterruptable power supply. It will also integrate and manage the existing electrical system in Tangguh’s first two LNG trains using ABB’s integrated process power manager that will be installed in the new third LNG train.
“Integrated solutions in the form of prefabricated substation buildings allow projects to be delivered with reduced risk, lower cost and shorter schedules. Facilitating flawless operations in this way is critical in today’s challenging oil and gas market,” says Per Erik Holsten, managing director of ABB’s Oil, Gas and Chemicals business.
