Aberdeen-headquartered CAN Group has enhanced its inspection engineering service portfolio with the introduction of a new, custom-built unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) system, CANdrone, to carry out inspections of assets on and offshore.
The CANdrone system was developed for CAN Group to provide efficient screening through rapid visualisation and data recording. The UAV delivers high resolution 4k data capture and playback.
The UAV system, which is Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) approved, can carry out live plant screening in challenging environments, providing visual inspections and structural assessments.
Adam Byrne, CAN Group director, says, “The development of CANdrone for our inspection engineering team is very exciting and is part of our ongoing investment in the integrated inspection service that we provide to our clients. This bespoke UAV system brings with it the opportunity to cut operational costs, as the use of drones for inspection can decrease asset downtime and reduces risk when carrying out inspections in hazardous environments.”
Celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, CAN Group is now a diversified market leader with distinct business streams including VENTEQ, ENGTEQ and CAN. These business streams, with a combined workforce of more than 900 people, provide a comprehensive asset integrity service, spanning quality assurance and quality control services, integrity engineering, inspection, maintenance and access solutions.
