BJ Services has successfully completed its first ethylene pipeline commissioning contract in Qatar. BJ's process and pipeline services group carried out cleaning, drying, nitrogen inerting and ethylene commissioning services on an ethylene gas pipeline located in the industrial zones of Qatar. The pipeline transports ethylene gas to end users, where it is converted into various commodities, including polyethylene. The pipeline system is comprised of one main 84-mile (135km) 14-inch line and two short 10-inch satellite lines.
'We are extremely proud of the inroads that have been made in Qatar since we began providing process and pipeline services in 1995. This was a great opportunity to carry out what we believe is the first ethylene commissioning operation in Qatar,' said Lindsay Link, BJ Services, general manager, process and pipeline services.
After hydrostatic testing and dewatering work was completed by the construction contractor, BJ Services applied its proprietary air cleaning and drying technique to achieve the stringent dew point requirement of -67°C (-88.6°F) prior to inerting the system with nitrogen. To carry out the product commissioning services, BJ then used its specialized heater transfer skid.
The contract was serviced by BJ Services personnel based at its facility in Doha, Qatar. Work was accomplished over a period of seven months following the multimillion USD dollar contract award in April of 2009.
