Aberdeen Harbour reports the appointment of two new Board members and the reappointment of Chris Lloyd for another three-year term.
Malcolm Laing and Howard Woodcock replace departing Board members Anne Scott and David Young, and bring with them strong leadership skills and a wealth of knowledge and experience in business, invaluable to the future advancement of the port.
Chris Lloyd has also been reappointed as chairman, following a successful first year where the port has witnessed record shipping tonnage throughput combined with an overall increase in vessel numbers.
Mr Laing, a corporate lawyer, is a partner at Ledingham Chalmers LLP. He has lived and worked in Aberdeen since 1982 and currently leads the firm’s Aberdeen Corporate Team, comprising a group of some 20 lawyers and support staff. As a local businessman, Mr Laing is actively involved in the overall management of Ledingham Chalmers, and spends his spare time acting as general legal advisor to several public bodies, charities and trade associations. Mr Laing also serves as the director of Cornerstone Community Care, a position he has held since 2003.
Current chief executive of Bibby Offshore Holdings Ltd., Mr Woodcock has overseen the company’s significant growth since taking on the role in 2005. He spent the early part of his career as a deck officer on offshore support vessels and has been involved in the shipping and marine sector for 30 years.
His involvement in local organisations, Cornerstone Community Care and Aberdeen Safer Communities Trust, gives him the opportunity to contribute to their fundraising and volunteering activities. Mr Woodcock also uses his business experience to assist in the ongoing development of both groups.
Commenting on the appointments, Colin Parker, chief executive of Aberdeen Harbour, said,“The Board provides a robust governance of the harbour, ensuring that its facilities are of the highest standard in order to maintain its competitive position and I’m delighted to announce Chris’ reappointment as chairman. He has contributed significantly over the last year and will continue to play a key role in the decisions that determine the future development of Aberdeen Harbour. I am equally sure that Malcolm and Howard will be welcome additions to the Board at a time of significantly high levels of activity and investment in modern fit for purpose facilities at the port.”
Chris Lloyd, chairman of Aberdeen Harbour, said: “Both Malcolm and Howard’s proven track records across the maritime and legal sectors will bring an invaluable expertise to the table as we continue to implement our ambitious development strategy. I have no doubt that, together, they will help us build on the successes experienced by Aberdeen Harbour in recent years. I would also like to thank Anne and David for their valued contribution during their time on the Board.”
