Polskie Górnictwo Naftowe i Gazownictwo SA (PGNiG) will put a new gas production facility into operation. The facility is located in Jasionka near Rzeszów, within the area of operations of the PGNiG Branch in Sanok.

In the years 2001–2004, a number of wells were drilled in the Jasionka field in order to prepare the geological and reservoir documentation. As a result of this efforts, natural gas reserves were identified at the depth of 600-1,700 metres. The recoverable reserves of the Jasionka field amount to 1.75 billion cubic metres.

The yearly production volume from the field is expected to exceed 150 million cubic metres of high-methane natural gas. The investment expenditures totalled approx. PLN 24 million.

The commissioning of the production facility in Jasionka makes part of the PGNiG’s policy to increase the production from the domestic fields. Currently, PGNiG extracts yearly around 4.3 billion cubic metres of natural gas (as converted to high-methane gas volumes) from its own fields located in the South and West of Poland. The annual natural gas production of PGNiG accounts for over 30% of the demand for this fuel in Poland.

PGNiG is also undertaking intensive efforts with a view to exploration and appraisal of new oil and gas fields in Poland. The company holds over 70 exploration concessions within the territory of Poland.

The natural gas reserves in Poland proven by PGNiG amount to over 106 bcm. PGNiG produces natural gas in the South of Poland (Branch in Sanok – 1.9 bcm per annum) and in the North-West of Poland (Branch in Zielona Góra – 2.4 bcm per annum).

The Branch in Sanok produces natural gas at 37 sites and operates over 680 active natural gas production wells within the area of its activity.
