Bermuda-based GeoPark Holdings has discovered a new oilfield in Chile, where the company’s Fell Block prospect Aonikenk flowed 1,200 barrels per day and 1.2 million cubic feet per day of gas without help.
Test flows from the Aonikenk 1 well are being trucked away to market, the company said, and a new well is planned for fourth-quarter 2008. No reserves data was disclosed.
Meanwhile, five other wells await testing, sidetracking or fixing: Santiago Norte 5 just started testing, and well stimulation work is due with the arrival of a service company.
The discovery marks the end of a two-year, $100 million investment program in the Magallanes region of Chile, where GeoPark became the first private-sector oil and gas producer in 2006.
“The Aonikenk oil discovery also opens up a new potential oil region in the northeast portion of the Fell Block,” company chief exec James Park was quoted as saying.
