A consortium of oil companies lead by Nippon Oil Exploration Ltd. has hired the Songa Saturn drill ship for work offshore Libya, in a $91 million work order for the rig contractor.

Four wells and options for five more are included in the request, which comes partly from CNPC International, Japex Libya and Petrobras International Braspetro. Songa could earn $91 million if the companies opt for all five extra wells.

From its sojourn in Equatorial Guinea, the Saturn will do a stint in a yard to upgrade for water up to 3,800 feet.

One well in Libya for Hess and the Saturn becomes available to the consortium in second-quarter 2008 for about a year.
